Skylanders Ring of Heroes – Soft Launch

Com2uS had recently soft launched Skylanders Ring of Heroes in Australia, Canada and New Zealand. Players who are interested in the game can download it from the above country’s App or Play Store.

Skylanders Ring of Heroes is a turn-based RPG based on the Skylanders franchise. Although I expected the game to be a played similar to Summoners War, but the game feels more alike Onmyoji.

Skylanders require Mana to perform action or skill. However, Mana is shared between all your Skylanders thus Players would need to strategize which skill is to be used first. To make things even more complicated, there are over 10 different elements in the game and each of them has 2 different counter elements (except Dark and Light).

The game’s art style resembles the recently launched Might & Magic: Elemental Guardians. The colors in the game and the design of each Skylander reminds me of many of the Monsters in Might & Magic: Elemental Guardians.

Despite the hype and popularity of the franchise, I feel that the game is ruined by its Gacha system (well done Activision). First of all, this is a shard-based gacha game. Second, each multi pull will not guarantee you a full Skylander. As you can see from my playthrough, I did 3x multi pulls which is roughly $50 USD and all I get is 3 complete Skylanders and a bunch of shards. This is definitely not a F2P friendly game.

With that said, you can still collect shards by playing the game but it’ll definitely take you a very long time to have new toys to play with.
