RPGs are great, but they can be awfully violent. You don’t always want to go on a bloody rampage, hacking enemies to pieces and looting their corpses. Blasting lethal gouts of magic from the end of your enchanted staff is fun, sure, but eventually it gets old.
Sometimes you just want to dress up. That’s what Nikki is for. Papergames’s hugely popular dress-up RPG series has been giving gamers a welcome respite from bloody combat for years, racking up over 100 million downloads in the process.
The studio has just announced a new sequel. Shining Nikki is the fourth in the series, and it’s shaping up to be the best yet.
The game will feature close to a thousand different clothing materials to work with, thousands of outfits to collect, and a compelling story that will take you through time and space as you help Nikki to prevent the annihilation of Miraland.
As you collect outfits you’ll learn more and more about Nikki’s past, and what destiny has in store for her. As in life, each garment tells its own story.
So it’s not just about trying clothes on. There are even battles, albeit the style variety. These will see you going head to head with other characters in themed contests, paying attention to cues and picking the most appropriate garments for any given moment.
Shining Nikki is a playful, enlightened take on the RPG genre, and it looks absolutely stunning.
Each one of its hundreds of outfits have been intricately drawn by hand, and they look totally authentic while being worn thanks to the game’s complex physics system and realistic light and shadow effects.
Shining Nikki has a polycount of close to 80,000, making it the digital equivalent of the highest quality luxury fabrics known to science.
We don’t have a precise release date yet, but Shining Nikki will be available for pre-registration soon. You can follow the game on its official site and Facebook page.
