Nuverse is finally ready to announce the Official launch for its upcoming mobile game, Ragnarok X: Next Generation. The game will be available to Players from the SEA region on 18 June 2021. The pre-registration campaign is still running so hurry down and unlock those awesome milestone rewards. I received a chance to experience the game in advance and here are some of the noticeable highlights.

Same World New Look

Ragnarok X: Next Generation is a 3D mobile MMORPG game based on the classic PC MMORPG – Ragnarok Online. Ragnarok X: Next Generation manages to retain the vibrant and colourful art-style from the original game, you’ll be happy to learn that many of the familiar Places of Interest are brought back to the mobile game with upgraded 3D models and expanded play area. These places include Square-town Prontera, the fantasy Izlude Island, Desert Morroc, Tribal-looking Payon and Diamond-shaped Geffen.

Built with the Unity 3D engine, Players will be able to experience day/night cycles and changing weathers in the game. This actually makes the world more beautiful and immersive. You’ll find yourself wanting to take more pictures or even videos in this everchanging, interactive world.

Players start out the game in the all too familiar city of Prontera. In this Square town, you’ll find nostalgia as almost every detail and landmark are the same as the original game. With upgraded 3D graphics, the city actually looks bigger than before. Even the iconic Central Fountain looks more “alive”. One thing to note though, I realised they shifted the horseman statue nearer to the Palace which was previously placed at the Central Fountain in the original game.

Other than the familiar areas, the game has also added more places for Players to explore. As you head to Prontera South Gate to fight Porings and Lunatics, you’ll realised there’s a new Amusement Park with different Rides that you can actually ride on. I can definitely picture myself walking aimlessly or taking rides in the park while chatting with my friends and Guildmates. This will definitely help to increase the social experience you have with other Players in the game.

Character Design

One of the highlights of playing a Ragnarok game is to “decorate” your chibi character models with tons of cute looking equipment. In Ragnarok X: Next Generation, character models are now in 3D thus allowing Players to be more immerse and invested in your own characters.

Besides the normal equipment that you will be wearing based on your class, there is a wardrobe system in the game where Players can try fitting on special looking equipment that are available via the different game modes. The wardrobe system indicates where each individual equipment piece can be found. All you need to do is tap on the “obtain” button and the system will guide you on where to acquire that particular piece of equipment. If you’re the type of Player who likes to min-max and pimp up your character, you’ll be glad to know that some of the special equipment do provide additional stats to your character.

I’m glad to learn that most of the cute looking equipment can be unlock by playing through the many different game modes such as MVP bosses, Crafting, Instance and even through the Couple system. My personal favourite is definitely the head gear that is called Lightning Cloud. As the name suggest, it has lightning effects surrounding the cloud which further highlight the 3D effects of the game.

Mount

The last system that I would like to share with you is the Mount system. This new world of Midgard can be a little big for Players to explore on foot. Fortunately, we will be able to unlock our first mount during the tutorial phase. Depending on your class, you’ll be able to unlock and ride on different type of mount. However, you’ll need to advance to the second class before you are able to do so. As for the Wizard Class, I’ll be riding the Nine Tail when the game launches.

You can further customize your mount by changing its base colour, equipping it with a headgear or unlock the different styles of saddle.

Currently, all of the mounts available in the game are not suitable for Cavalry combat except the Pecopeco which is the Knight specific mount. This shows that Ragnarok X: Next Generation stays true to the original game as I did play as a Knight for the original PC MMO. Besides class specific mounts, there are other mounts that Players can unlock such as the Promise Carriage from the “Couple System”, the Whirlwind Skateboard from the CBT Reward or the Sasquatch Sled from the Kingdom Pass Reward.

Conclusion

Ragnarok X: Next Generation is definitely a feast for the eyes. There are tons of flashy items with many visual effects that Players can discover and customize your very own unique character. All of these can be found in a new yet nostalgic world of Midgard. If you’re looking for a new Mobile MMORPG with great art, cute character designs, tons of customization, easy controls and competitive PVP, you definitely don’t want to miss this. I’ll see you in Midgard on 18 June.
