The sects in Jian Xia Qing Yuan R are separated into 5 different elements and since Fire has always been my go-to element in most games, I’ll have to choose between Gai Bang or Tian Ren as my sect.
At character creation, you’ll be able to check out the specialty of each sect and also the stats based on “survivability”, “damage”, “agility”, “controls” and “difficulty”. Tian Ren has the highest difficulty level in the game thus I, who likes a challenge, picked Tian Ren as my first choice.
As you first enter the game, you’ll be greeted with the nostalgic 2.5D graphics. Fortunately, the mobile game has added auto-pathing thus you can simply move to your next quest location or hunting zone by just pressing on the quest tab. I am glad that I do not have to remember the location of each NPC or quest zone.
For those of you who are new to the game, it can be a little complicated at first as there are many mechanics and things you can do in the game. Fortunately, the game included 2 important pages that acts as a checklist to help aid your journey.
The “Improvement” page shows you the recommended Combat Power that you should have based on your current level. The combat power is broken down into 4 components, your equipment, equipment level, equipment slot and cape.
The “Event” page helps to keep tab on the daily and monthly activities that you can perform. Like most traditional MMORPG, levelling in the game is not easy and it requires some grinding. Try to complete your daily activities to gain valuable Experience Points outside of fighting mobs. However, if you are unable to complete the daily activities, fret not as the game will give you a second chance the next day to redeem all the “missed” EXP. You can spend Silver to get back a portion of the missed EXP or Gold for the full EXP amount.
Make sure to read every conversation dialogue carefully and remember the names of important people and places as there is a quiz that you can do daily which provide some decent experience points.
Tian Ren Sect
Being a member of Tian Ren means I am able to be an adept in Sabre or Spear. I have chosen the Sabre path and was given 3 Active Skills, 5 Passive Skills and an Ultimate skill that I will be able to unlock at level 60. As I head out in my journey to defeat enemies, I soon realised why Tian Ren was labelled the most difficult to play. Unlike most other sect members, my highest damage skill has an awkward AOE damage area that is in a straight line. I am unable to effectively damage all the enemies if they are surrounding me in a cross or circle. Thankfully, the damage for the skill is high and would melt most enemies within a few seconds.
Personally, I wish we are given more active skills to mix and match for our gameplay.
If you have joined a guild, you can also learn some passive skills using your guild contribution. These add up to a ton of additional stats that can help you survive in this ruthless Wulin.
PVP
There are many ways where people can take part in PVP in the game. There are guild wars, “the battle of Song-Jin”, Ranking and Open-world PVP. I would like to specially mentioned about the Open-world PVP as you will drop EXP when you die. Make sure you have your Pots ready and try to be in a party as much as possible before engaging in fights.
Guild
It is important for Players to join a guild as soon as you reach level 18. There are many activities in the game that require you to be in a guild to complete. Furthermore, being in an active guild can help you solve many “newbie” questions that you might have. Personally, I’m enjoy the free Red Packets that I can collect from the guild members daily.
Trading
Players can trade rare equipment for premium currency in the game or normal “offering materials” for silver. I like the idea of premium currency trading as I can then use them to unlock certain premium pack bundles or buying gold.
Conclusion
Jian Xia Qing Yuan R definitely brings back tons of memories especially the days when MMORPG was at the “growth stage”. I remember vividly that it was also one of my first MMORPGs that I have tried playing as a teen. Back then, games were focused on doing things together in a guild, PvP, and social engagement.
Sadly, modern games have become more of a single player experience and there isn’t much social interaction between Players. If you enjoy large scale PvP, Guild Events or World Events, you should definitely download Jian Xia Qing Yuan R.
