The news of the upcoming Project Sekai movie has taken the Vocaloid community by storm. And also anyone who likes Hatsune Miku.

I happen to be a part of both fandoms, so as you can imagine, I’m more than happy about this announcement!

It’s due to appear in cinemas on January 17, 2025 in Japan. But, we don’t have a date for a worldwide release yet. To find out more about the mobile game, visit the official website for Hatsune Miku’s Project Sekai.

A New Hatsune Miku Story

As a player of Project Sekai myself, and a fan of Hatsune Miku in general, I cannot wait to see this movie. The story revolves around Hoshino Ichika, a character players will know from the mobile game. In Sekai, she’s a member of the group, Leo/need.

However, in the Project Sekai movie, she’s a struggling musician who just wants the world to hear her music. That is until Hatsune Miku suddenly comes into her life via her mobile phone. From then on, the two form a musical pact.

What To Expect From The Movie

For those who have played the mobile game, you’ll recognise a bunch of the characters that feature in the film. However, the main plot is completely original, it’s just based in the same world as Project Sekai.

This movie’s version of Hatsune Miku looks different compared to her various forms in the game. Instead, she sports black ‘X’ shaped clips in her hair and an oversized jacket that features her signature colours.

While it’s being donned as a piece of original work, I won’t be surprised if there are some nods to canon lore from the Project Sekai game.

Do I think you need to have some experience with the mobile title before watching the movie? Nope! I reckon you can enjoy the film just as much either way.

Anime fans were also treated to brand-new character teasers for the upcoming Oshi No Ko live adaptation. I took a closer look at each video and made some predictions!
