Due to the recent passing of Kazuo Umezu, Hunter x Hunter Creator Yoshihiro Togashi shared on his official X account that “Posting will likely be irregular until the end of November. There were a lot of things going on and I couldn’t concentrate on my work. The current situation is difficult, especially with the news of Umezu-sensei’s passing.”

Despite posting daily updates of the manga progression, November 7th is the first time the Hunter x Hunter creator, Yoshihiro Togashi, has not posted to his social media in months. Many fans are giving him space to grieve and remember Kazuo Umezu. But they worry this might lead to another hiatus in his work.

The Hunter x Hunter manga has recently come off hiatus. However, Togashi has openly spoken about the back pain and other health issues that he suffers from, which is also why HxH went on hiatus in the first place. On September 3rd, 2024, he made a post on X explaining that ‘his back has really deteriorated.’ He later announced that the pain is the worst whilst he is adding color to his work, and fans are encouraging him to pass that on to an editor to finish.

What Does This Mean For The Hunter x Hunter Manga?

Togashi is in the process of drawing up to chapter 430 of Hunter x Hunter. The latest release was chapter 405 on Sunday 3rd November 2024 (in areas outside of Japan). Fans believe he is currently working on chapter 424.

Despite letting people know that he may be posting irregularly for a while due to the recent loss of Umezu. Fans can’t help but worry about the future of the manga. Even though people are reassuring him that it’s okay to take breaks. Many are concerned that after chapter 430 is released, there might be another hiatus due to his health.

The most important thing is Togashi’s well-being. With frequent postings to social media about his back pain, many wonder if the beloved characters of HxH will ever arrive at the Dark Continent.

Togashi announced at the end of 2023 that there are four ending options for HxH: A, B, C, and D. A and B are more favorable. D is the worst-case scenario. And C is what Togashi wants, but fans may not like it. With so many questions unanswered in the manga, only time will tell what will happen onboard the Black Whale.
