Hellgate London FPS – Online Shooter Revives On Mobile

0

HanbitSoft Inc. has recently release a brand new FPS mobile game, Hellgate London FPS. Yes, you heard it right, this is the same Hellgate London which the PC MMO servers from all over the world had closed down. Now, Hanbitsoft has once again re-release the game with a mobile version.

A decade ago, I remember rushing to mall where the launch event of Hellgate London was held and queuing for almost 2 hours to get my hands on the game. Developed by Flagship Studios, a team of former Blizzard Entertainment employees whom had overseen the creation of the Diablo series, Hellgate London is a FPS Shooter with multi-player capabilities. It includes random elements such as Weapon and Armor stats, item drops and mob spawns. Basically, it’s a FPS version of Diablo.

I really like the idea of the game but sadly, due to the game being “rushed” to release, it was plague with bugs and hackers at launch which inevitably caused the game to fail. Furthermore, Free-to-Play games was taking off during that time and the high box price for a buggy game deterred many people from playing the game. Although many companies tried to revive the game over the years, but all of them had failed miserably. Now that Hanbitsoft has the rights to Hellgate London, they’re hoping to revive the title by bringing it onto mobile.

To be honest, I really hate playing FPS games on Mobile or Console. It just doesn’t feel right moving the crosshair with your fingers and people with fat fingers like me will have difficulty aiming on the head especially if the enemies like to “Jump” around. However, to be fair to my once favourite game title, I decided to try the game and sure enough, controlling that crosshair was really a pain in the Ar**.

Maybe I am bias towards the PC version but the game is being dumped down a lot to suit the mobile environment. Firstly, you can’t move your characters about. There are no more random weapons or armor drops from bosses which was the main highlight for the PC version In fact, there are no more Armors in the game. Weapons are now unlocked through the cashshop.

I’m super disappointed with the game’s graphic. It is no where comparable to the PC version. If there’s a need for an example, I would say the graphics is between Doom 2 and Doom 3. The graphics is just not good enough for a mobile game in the year 2016.

Bias aside, the game does have a few decent features such as the skill system, colourful weapons and challenging boss fights.

If you’re expecting the original game, my advice is to stay away. However, I do know that some people actually like playing FPS on mobile and would like to recommend you to try the game for old time’s sake.

Hellgate London FPS is currently soft launched in South Korea, USA, Thailand, Philippines, New Zealand, Spain, Brazil and South Africa. Currently, only the Android build is available.
