On 15th November 2021, VNG Games has announced the pre-registration campaign for the Simplified Chinese version of Jian Xia Qing Yuan R. Fans of the Jian Xia series from Singapore and Malaysia can soon expect to play the game starting in mid-December. Let us look at some of the highlights of the game and why you should be playing it.
Where it all began
The first Jian Xia Qing Yuan game is a single-player RPG that was first launched in 1997 for MS-DOS. The game was considered to be one of the biggest hit RPGs from China with several sequels being developed over the following years. Some of these sequels eventually became popular MMORPGs for PC, Web-based and mobile devices.
The Return of Jian Xia Qing Yuan
Jian Xia Qing Yuan R is a Mobile MMORPG based on the first online version of the series that was launched in 2003. It is definitely one of the most successful pioneers of the MMORPG genre for the SEA region at that time. Millennials from the 80s or early 90s who have played the original online game will find many nostalgic memories as the game retains its retro 2.5D graphics, theme song, story plot, and tons of flashy skills that make your character powerful.
Starting the game – Character Creation
For those of you who are fans of the Wuxia or mobile MMO genre, you’ll be glad to learn that there will be tons of content in the game that will fill your void for the genre. At the start of the game, players can choose to play as a member of one of the 10 “sects” in the game. If you are well-versed in the Wuxia world, you’ll probably have heard some or even all of these sects which include 峨眉 (Er Mei), 少林 (Shaolin), 唐门 (Tang Clan), 武当 (Wudang) 丐帮 (Beggar Sect) and etc. Each sect is further divided into one of the 5 traditional Chinese “Wu Xing” elements of Metal, Wood, Water, Fire, and Earth.
What makes the game really unique is the character customization. Each sect is different in terms of skills, controls, and gameplay thus it is important for players to decide and pick one that suits their own play style. As you progress through the game, you will also collect different kinds of secret scriptures that can further strengthen your character. Make sure to plan ahead, mix and match the passive and active skills that benefit you the best, ultimately creating the most powerful character in Wulin.
Game Modes
The game is set in the era of Jin-Song Wars thus it has always been a PVP-centric game at least for most of its online version. Players will be able to participate in massive guild wars or province wars where you’ll be fighting for the Jin or Song Dynasty. There are also World Raid Bosses for players to acquire powerful items and equipment to further strengthen their character.
Items and Trade
Each item has its own unique stats and element. As you progress through the game, you’ll be collecting tons of items that will benefit and improve your character’s stats. Players will be glad to learn that World drop pieces of equipment are unbound and can be traded freely with other players or be sold through the Auction system in exchange for premium currency. It’s really difficult to see a modern mobile game with a trade or auction system and I’m really glad that Jian Xia Qing Yuan R will be keeping this system from the original online game. This system alone makes the game worth playing more than any other mobile MMORPGs out there.
