Wright Flyer Studios has launched their latest Triple-A mobile RPG, Another Eden (アナザーエデン 時空を超える猫) on both Japan’s App and Play Store. If you’re a fan of traditional JRPG, you’ll definitely love this title.
There have been tons of hype for Another Eden on many Japanese gaming websites and after playing the game for awhile, I can say that this is definitely one of the best Japanese mobile game I had ever played. Another Eden is everything you can expect from a traditional JRPG, and I don’t mean those that you usually play on your mobile.
What makes a traditional JRPG good is definitely the storyline. Another Eden is filled with tons of dialogue basically telling the story of how your main protagonist ends up in different multiverse and the adventures he has to take to become strong to avenge his Foster Dad. The game is almost in full Exploration mode unlike most mobile RPG where you have to select “stages” and spend Energy to tackle them. You are required to walk from point A to B regardless whether you’re in town accepting quest or out in the field activating random encounters.
Combat is turn-based with a party of 4 and 2 back up characters. You can obtain new characters as you progress in the story while the best characters are still found in the Gacha.
I’m not sure if this is going to be a pure story mode game and not having those “weekly events” you find in most gacha-based games, but from the last I heard, season 1 has 26 chapters.
Another Eden is definitely one of those rare games where I wish I could read and understand Japanese. The game’s main selling point is definitely it’s strong plot and not being able to understand the story is definitely a big cut to the overall game experience. However, if you like dungeon crawling RPG, the game is definitely one of the best out there.
