Crayon Shin-chan the Movie: Very Bizarre! My Yokai Vacation is scheduled to open in Japanese theatres on July 31st, 2026. It’s the 34th Crayon Shin-chan movie overall and the 33rd instalment produced in the series’ traditional 2D animated format.

Shin-Ei Animation is handling the animation production for the movie. Masaki Watanabe directs the project from a screenplay written by Yoshiko Nakamura. Previously, he contributed storyboards to the franchise’s films.

Do you know the plot of this movie?

The story takes Shin-chan and the rest of the Nohara family away from their usual surroundings and into Akita. It’s the hometown of Shin-chan’s paternal grandfather, Ginnosuke Nohara. The film is the first entry in the series set in Akita.

The family travels there to visit Hiroshi’s parents and attend the famous Omagari Fireworks Festival. While they expect a normal summer trip, they find themselves caught up in a string of strange events spreading across both Akita and the rest of Japan.

As mysterious and unexplained phenomena begin appearing nationwide. Residents connected to a place known as Yokai Land start running wild, creating chaos and confusion. During the family’s stay in Akita Prefecture, Shinnosuke unknowingly attracts the attention of a suspicious shadow.
