The announcement trailer for the Death Note Killer Within game has arrived… and it looks like the game takes after Among Us. That’s a sentence I never thought I’d say.

While the trailer gives us some insight into what the game entails, we can say for certain that it comes out November 5th 2024, which isn’t that far away! It’s available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC on Steam.

What’s Death Note Killer Within About?

The beginning of the trailer showcases Light and L sitting at a table, playing a game of chess. Though it doesn’t look like a typical match. The chess pieces include random citizens, with some wearing Kira t-shirts, and Misa’s there too.

The chess board suddenly turns into a city location, with all of the pieces moving around by themselves. So, from this, we can deduce that the game takes place in a made-up world between Light and L… that’s true friendship right there.

Among Us x Death Note

When loading into a match, you’re either a follower of Kira or you’re an investigator who works with L.

Kira’s followers utilise the Death Note to defeat targets, which you grab the name of by stealing their ID cards. L’s investigators are tasked with the destruction of the Death Note and the capture of Kira.

Like in Among Us, all 10 players take part in a meeting to try and figure out who’s working with Kira and who’s acting the most suspiciously. Use your investigative notes and deductive hints to vote for who you think should be arrested, (a.k.a, the imposter).

My Thoughts

Now, for my personal thoughts on the game. I’m happy that Death Note is getting something new, and even better that it’s a video game. But, I can’t lie, the chess piece models aren’t the nicest to look at.

Don’t get me wrong, the 3D models of Light and L look great, but the individual pieces have a strange sense of uncanny valley. No doubt this is what the developers wanted, but I don’t know, I was hoping for something a little more aesthetically pleasing to the eyes.
