Interview: We Discuss Heartshot – A Specialized Dating Platform for Gamers

Heartshot is the new online dating community for gamer singles. Already successful in German-speaking countries, Heartshot is now expanding around the world.

The site has been fully translated into English for this purpose, so we spoke to its founder Martin about how the idea for Heartshot came about, success stories to come from it, and plans for the future.

How did the idea behind Heartshot come about?

I’ve been a gamer myself since childhood and grew up with Atari, Game Boy, Amiga, Super Nintendo and PC. In Germany at least, there is no dating site of any significant size that explicitly targets gamers. Gamers often spend a lot of their free time in front of the screen. It’s good if your partner also likes to do this and it doesn’t lead to conflicts, but you even enjoy gaming together and everyone understands each other’s cosmos.

Because gaming is a huge cosmos. It seemed to me that a dating site specifically for gamers makes perfect sense. As a gamer, you have many opportunities to meet new people online, but they often hide behind nicknames and avatars. Heartshot gives you the opportunity to meet other gamers from your own area in real life. Our photo guidelines only allow real photos that show the person themselves. And we check each and every uploaded photo before approving it. As a specialized dating site, Heartshot fills an unoccupied space in the gaming cosmos. Think of it this way: Heartshot is like tinder for gamers.

Can you tell us a bit about how the site works?

Sure. You simply register with your nickname and e-mail address and select the location in which you live. Fill in your gamer profile and upload a few photos of yourself and you’re ready to go. You can use a filter function to find other single gamers in your area or of a similar age and then send a contact request directly. All typical dating functions, such as exchanging messages between members, are completely free of charge. As a special gimmick, you can select all the games you like to play and then use them to meet new people or perhaps even new fellow players.

Are gamers well placed to find love, in your opinion – and if so, why?

I think that primarily depends on the individual. In general, however, I think the gaming scene is very communicative and talkative. Secondly, of course, almost every gamer is familiar with all the modern apps. Digital skills are very high in the scene. The best prerequisites for finding your love digitally. Now you just have to get off your butt (okay, not even that) and sign up for Heartshot.

Are there any success stories from the site you can share?

Not explicitly, but many dozen gamer couples have already found each other via Heartshot. How do I know that? When deleting your account, you have the option of leaving anonymous feedback. Of course, this often includes more or less helpful suggestions for improvement, but sometimes people just want to say thank you for finding the love of their life on Heartshot. I would like to read more of these reasons for signing off too…

What are your plans for the site in 2025?

First of all, I want to further increase the site’s user base. We already have well over 5,000 members, and new ones are joining every day. It won’t be long before we reach 10,000 users. I’m also currently putting my energy into designing some features that will bring the community even more to life and give people new opportunities to interact with each other. For example, it will be possible to discuss games and link these contributions to the games. And since every game already has its own profile page and our games database is virtually complete, there are almost no limits here.

Thanks to Martin for his time – you can visit Heartshot here.
