The recent Love and Deepspace controversy has caused fans to clash after Luke Ishikawa, an actor and model, went live on TikTok and acted out some of Caleb’s voice lines and made a joke saying, “He (Caleb) does look like me.”

Luke Jokes Around With Fans

On March 19th, 2025, Luke Ishikawa went live on TikTok. During the stream, fans made comments expressing how similar he looked to Caleb. Caleb is one of the love interests in Love and Deepspace and a childhood friend of the main character.

People also encouraged him to recite some of Caleb’s voice lines, which he did after some research. Luke played along and joked about how similar he and Caleb look.

Many global fans loved how he interacted with fans and played along with their jokes. However, some international fans took this in the wrong way and thought Luke was claiming he was the real-life inspiration for Caleb’s character.

The situation became intense on Chinese-based social platforms, with people saying to never compare fictional love interests to real men. Some users also said that only Chinese actors should be compared to Caleb due to Love and Deepsapce’s Chinese origin.

Official Statements By Luke And His Agency

On April 1st, GMMTV (Luke’s agency) released a statement explaining Luke has not received any benefit from Love and Deepspace. And that he has never claimed he has. The agency then stated that it will take legal action against anyone who continues spreading misinformation that could damage Luke’s career or reputation.

Luke apologised on another TikTok live on March 24th, and released an apology on X. He explained that “Being compared to a handsome fictional character is incredibly flattering”. And also noted that “I had no prior knowledge of the game or the character. I simply wanted to make sure no one felt ignored in the comments during one or two of my TikTok live sessions.” You can read the full apology on Luke’s official X account.
