Onmyoji – Soft Launch Live

NetEase Games has announced the soft launch of the English version of Onmyoji. Players from Australia, Canada, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, New Zealand, Norway, Philippines, and Sweden can now download the game from your local App or Play Store.

Onmyoji is a turn-based RPG based in a time when demons and humans coexisted. The game is based on the Heian Period in Kyoto. Players will take on the role of an Onmyoji (Exorcist) who have somehow lost his memory. This is one of those games that are story driven. At any one time, Players can take on the role of 1 of the 4 Onmyoji(s) available in game and summon powerful Shikigami to fend of those evil spirits.

For comparison sake, the game plays very similar to Summoners War with slightly more features and unique gameplay. Unlike in most Korean type RPG where you can spam your character’s skill as long as it’s off cooldown, the skill system for Onmyoji is slightly differently. Each time a character uses a skill, it will use a certain number of Skill Orbs. To make things challenging, Skill Orbs are shared among all your party members. This means that you have to prioritize which character’s skill you want to use on each turn to maximize damage.

If you don’t know, Onmyoji did really well when it first launched in 2016 and for the last 2 years, it had won quite a number of awards. Now that the game has finally come to the West, I believe it’ll continue to do well.

One thing I’m not liking though… It seems that the IAP for the English version is more expensive than the Chinese version……………
